POSITION
Summary:
The Forensic Nurse will provide specialized care for patients who are experiencing acute and long-term health consequences associated with victimization or violence, and/or have unmet evidentiary needs relative to having been victimized or accused of victimization. This may include a Medical-Forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, to include HIV Post Exposure Prophylaxis as indicated, photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate medical, psychological follow-up, support and participation in legal proceedings
DUTIES, ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Provide and Coordinate Trauma informed, Victim Centered care by all agencies involved in assisting the victim of violence and or trauma and coordinate referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up as needed for each patient.
Perform and document a Medical-Forensic History. Perform a complete physical and Head-to-Toe assessment for trauma, detailed ano-genital examination, forensic specimen collection and documentation, including photography, and assess for mandatory reporting status, reporting when appropriate.
Document injuries accurately with support of photographic evidence. Maintain chain of custody for any evidence collection.
Maintain professional standards that do not create conflict of interests with employment or patient care, including patient and medical record confidentiality
Must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while on-call.
Administer appropriate prophylactic medications per protocols
Provide testimony as fact witness to any/all exams performed by the Forensic Nurse and coordinate with attorneys during judicial process.
Responsible to maintain clinical expertise as a Forensic Nurse
Attend other agencies when discussing a case review

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Associates Degree in Nursing (AND) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school.
Experience:
Prefer 2 years of nursing experience in an acute care setting.
Position requires fluency in English language to function in job environment appropriately.
Good interpersonal, communication, team-work, and customer service skills.
Good organizational, problem-solving and follow-through skills.
Ability to multi-task constantly, react to changes quickly/productively, and tolerate interruptions.
Ability to perform work when no directions are given, and give directions to others.
Remain flexible, organized, professional and able to analyze, make sound decisions under stressful or crisis situations.
Demonstrate knowledge of current computer systems, equipment or programs used in the organization.
Demonstrate maturity and accountability.
Certification and Licensure:
Completion of education to obtain Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
ACLS certification preferred.
BLS required
PALS Certification (preferred but not required).

CA-CP SANE - Certified Adult and Certified Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, position patients and possess physical strength sufficient to assist in lifting/transferring patients and moving departmental equipment.
Must possess digital dexterity.
Must have keen sense of touch, smell, vision, and hearing.
Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Exposure to communicable diseases and biohazardous materials, danger of infection from contaminated materials, falls on slippery floors; possibility of injury from moving heavy equipment or patients.
OSHA category I position. Body substance isolation must be practiced.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
