General Description Experience Requirements Responsible for diagnostic and procedural medical coding of all outpatient records The Medical Coding Specialist must also maintain IT coding knowledge in order to assist the physician with completion of his/her medical records Responsible for additionally coding CPT:
IV procedural coding on all third party payors requiring it Obtain, update, and maintain ICD:

CM and CPT:
IV medical coding knowledge Responsible for interpreting health data from the medical record to assign the appropriate codes Accurately abstract the medical record data and inputting data into the medical and statistical data system to meet internal and external requirements for information Remain aware of any changes from The CMS and other organizations in regard to outpatient coding practices Assist in physician education regarding assignment of the most appropriate ICD:
9 codes and POA indicators.
Salary Starting at 33, 000 annually Education Requirements Two (2) to four (5) years of Emergency Room (ER) coding experience in a Hospital Setting Prefer completion of CCS Certification, and/or RHIT or RHIA degree.
Must have previous acute:
care hospital coding experience Demonstrated knowledge of computers and micro computer applications.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
